Matthew Root is the Director of Forward-Deployed Engineering at Recidiviz. Previously, he led software engineering teams at Square, Opower, Optimizely, and Uptrust. His career has been oriented around leveraging technology to tackle society’s thorniest problems including mass incarceration, climate change, and economic empowerment. In his spare time, Matthew enjoys reading (impatiently waiting for Kingkiller Chronicle book three), playing lacrosse, traveling to new countries, convincing friends and family to eat more protein, playing tabletop and video games, and making craft cocktails. He can tell you all of the things to not do in a home renovation. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University.
