Last year Tennessee’s legislature passed two landmark pieces of legislation championed by Gov. Bill Lee. These legislative reforms build on Tennessee’s 2016 Public Safety Act. Every year the Tennessee Department of Corrections strengthens its ability to measure the full scope of impact of new policies and practices. In partnership with Recidiviz, TDOC is now leveraging a tool that enables correctional administrators to select specific subpopulations (i.e. 25-29 year olds returning from temporary release), to observe the impact of recent changes on specific  cohorts and to invest more in programs that work.
