Our institutional population is at its lowest levels since 2001. Recidiviz supports our team members to continue their incredible work and highlights opportunities to advance our department's overall objectives.

Pennsylvania

We’ve been tracking the outcomes from day one. We’ve made significant movement toward decarceration. And overall crime is lower, we have fewer prisons, and we’ve had the lowest increases in corrections spending in recent history.

Department of Corrections leadership uses data to drive decision-making.

In collaboration with Recidiviz and the CSG Justice Center, Pennsylvania has developed a dashboard that provides real-time data analytics and gives a clearer view of how key metrics like recommitments from parole influence the size and composition of its incarcerated population. The dashboard also helps Department of Corrections leadership identify trends in behavior and successful practices for reducing recidivism, and enables them to use that data to shape effective policies.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

Pennsylvania extends data transparency through the launch of their public dashboard.

In 2021, Pennsylvania became the second state to launch a public dashboard that provides policymakers, advocacy groups, journalists, and researchers with real-time visibility into what’s happening in its criminal justice system. Pennsylvania’s public data visualizations enable the Department of Corrections (DOC) to tell a story about the justice system and to facilitate dialogue about effective reform.

Shaping and sharing data for successful outcomes.

Recidiviz’s partnership with Pennsylvania began with the Lantern dashboard developed in collaboration with the CSG Justice Center. Pennsylvania, known in the corrections space and by external researchers as a leader in data transparency, saw an opportunity to understand and utilize its data more effectively in order to build upon recent successes and drive forward positive change in the justice system. The partnership is part of a comprehensive effort by the Department of Corrections and the Pennsylvania Parole Board to use data-driven decision-making to reduce the prison population, reduce inequities, and help justice-involved people succeed in their communities.
