Daniel Porter is a State Engagement Fellow at Recidiviz. Prior to joining the Recidiviz team, Daniel spent eleven years incarcerated in the Maine State Prison, where he worked on a variety of projects to strengthen and create systems of support for residents seeking education and recovery from substance use disorders. This work included designing and delivering a course as a Prison Education Partnership Teaching Fellow, sitting on the advisory board of Prison Education Partnership, founding the Maine DOC Resident Recovery Steering Committee and leading a team of RRSC coaches, and educating more than 500 students as an Education Coordinator and Instructor in Public Speaking, Creative Writing, and Literary Analysis. Daniel holds a B.A. in Arts and Liberal Studies from the University of Maine at Augusta and is currently working toward a M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies: Peace and Reconciliation Studies from the University of Maine at Orono, which he'll complete in December 2023. He loves nature and taking pictures of flowers, woodworking, classic novels, and creating connections.
A diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace is essential to our mission. People come to Recidiviz to contribute to an urgent cause, and to work alongside incredible coworkers who care as much as they do. To ensure that we’re building intentional products and amplifying the work of others in the reform ecosystem, we are committed to fostering a diverse team that reflects the people we serve.
We combine the efficiency of a tech company with the heart of a non-profit. Recidiviz began as a volunteer project at Google and has since grown into one of the brightest, kindest teams that civic tech has to offer. Our north star: safely and fairly shrinking the criminal justice system.
