# Recidiviz

> Recidiviz is a non-profit criminal justice data and technology platform. It partners with U.S. state departments of corrections, as well as large city and county justice systems, to unify fragmented, siloed data into a standardized layer, then uses that layer to power a modular corrections software platform covering everything from intake to reentry. The goal: save agency staff time, surface what's working, and safely and fairly reduce incarceration.

Key facts:

- Started as a volunteer project at Google in 2017; became an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2019.
- Partners with 19+ state departments of corrections, together responsible for roughly half of the U.S. prison and community-supervision population, as well as large city/county systems.
- Funded by foundations, not shareholders — not a for-profit vendor.
